Chopsticks shook in Mari’s hand. She hated that she had to struggle to get the rice to her lips. She only had herself to blame though. Mari knew that. At a certain point, one comes to realization that they are slipping mentally. She heard that from one of the older girls once. Mari could feel herself becoming exactly like how she was again. She moved her other shaking hand towards her neck and felt the holes on each side of her neck. The familiar spark as she touched the bite marks raced through her body. Then the self-hate set in.

Hate that she allowed herself to fall into the trap. As her still lucid vision was bothering her, she couldn’t help but be upset with herself. Mari chomped on more rice. She couldn’t understand how things fell apart so fast. It had been so long. Glancing over at the vial of blood beside her bowl, she began to feel sick. The thing that she wanted to be is what was killing her; she had to figure out a way to cope with that. Right now, it was not looking good. Another extention of her contract and no telling what would happen.

“Could my body even hold up to another five hundred bites?” she mused. She fought back a few tears – trying to drown out sentiment with more food. “At least I’m the only one in the room. No one can see this. Almost right on cue, the loud slam of someone forcing the door open caught Mari’s attention. She was surprised that the door didn’t fly off its hinges or crash into pieces. Then Mari noticed it was a guard – a different one than earlier though. This one had jet black hair and the armor to match. He was barely visible even with all the lit candles in the room. Armor clanked as he walked toward her and took a seat across from her at the low sitting table.

“Yes, my master?” Mari said, genuinely confused. The man said nothing. He just stared at her with a smug expression. He stared at her for what felt like several minutes, leading Mari to continue eating in what was quite possibly the most awkward meal that she had ever eaten in her entire life. “My master, is there anything you need?” she asked as she finished the last bit of her meal.

The vampire just smiled. “Yes, there is.” His voice was slimy; it screamed bad to Mari.

“What is it, my Master?”

“I heard that you get off to getting your blood drained my us,” she said, revealing two of his fangs. “Is that true?” He couldn’t conceal his growing smile.

The chopsticks dropped out of Mari’s hands. “N-no, my Master,” she said.

“Oh?” In a flash, he was right beside her, his fingers grazing where she was bitten. “The fact that you have to sets of bite marks tells me different.” Mari desperately wanted to run – to get as far away from this man as physically possible. “Tell me,” he started, “why do you have two bite marks? Was it an overzealous vampire?” Mari remained silent. She felt the biggest lump in her throat. The vampire laughed loudly. It was the type of eerie laugh that could turn stomachs when heard.

“No, you like it. I can smell it on you. Well, that and fear.” He moved this fingers from the bite mark and moved his fingers up and down her neck. “And the fear on you is strong!” He laughed again.

“My master, please.”

“Please what? Drink your blood?” He moved his fingers and lowered the collar of her kimono to reveal some of her shoulder.

“No, I-”

“You what? Answer my question. Why two bite marks?”

Silence.

“That’s what I thought. I knew you liked it. I love you girls. You know the thrill and terror of the bite, but still want it anyway.” He moved in and licked the side of her neck. Mari gasped, causing the vampire to release another maniacal laugh. “If you want more fangs, I have a mouth full of them.” Mari was astonished to see the vampire reveal a mouthful of sharp fangs. She jumped up and ran toward the other side of the room, increasing the sadistic delight of the vampire.

“Let me let you in on a little something about vampire physiology. Every tooth we have has a retractable fang. It makes it easier to rip a human’s throat out to get all that delicious blood. You like it, don’t you? You want me to sink all these fangs into that neck of yours.” Mari immediately clutched at her neck.

“Yes you do,” he laughed again. He then got up and headed toward the door. “We’ll be in touch.” Mari could hear his laughter from down the hall. She slumped down against the wall. She didn’t know what made her more sick – the man with one hundred fangs or the fact that, for a fleeting moment, what he said was right.

And that was the sickest part of them all.
